The most common problem of BMW ZF plated Limited Slip Differentials (LSD) found in early models (E30, E36, E34...) is a cross pin failure. When clutch discs wear out, LSD units slips more than they should creating extra friction between small spider gears (satellites) and pins, leading to cross pin failure. This can be a serious problem, as they are NOT available as spare part, hence you may need to get a new differential.
